01 · Our promise

We never turn away a patient with a fever

Since Dr. Gamo opened the clinic in April 2021, we have seen every patient with a fever who comes to us. That does not change for travelers. Japanese health insurance does not cover visitors, so we made a flat-fee menu for them: one clear price that includes the tests, the English documents for a travel insurance claim, plus a prescription if you need one.

02 · The flat fee

What does the USD 700 fee include?

The USD 700 flat fee covers four things: an English consultation with the physician, a PCR panel that checks for 15 respiratory pathogens from one nasal swab, a same-day English medical certificate you can send to your travel insurer, and a prescription if you need one.

03 · The test

Which infections does the PCR panel detect?

The BioFire SpotFire R Panel is a multiplex PCR test: it copies and detects the genetic material of each germ, checking one nasal swab for 11 viruses and 4 bacteria at once. This is the version approved for clinical use in Japan.

Viruses 11

  • SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
  • Influenza A
  • Influenza A/H1-2009 (H1N1pdm09)
  • Influenza A/H3 (H3N2)
  • Influenza B
  • RSV
  • Human metapneumovirus
  • Adenovirus
  • Parainfluenza virus
  • Rhinovirus / Enterovirus
  • Seasonal coronavirus

Bacteria 4

  • Mycoplasma pneumoniae
  • Chlamydia pneumoniae
  • Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough)
  • Bordetella parapertussis

Knowing which bacterium is present helps the physician choose an antibiotic that works against it.

Group A streptococcus (strep throat) is not part of this panel. If strep throat is suspected, the physician may use a separate rapid molecular test.

04 · Your visit

How do I check in without an appointment?

You do not need an appointment. Come to the fever clinic entrance during opening hours, check in with the QR code posted there, then wait in your car until we contact you. Patients are seen in check-in order, and people with more severe symptoms may be seen first.

  1. Go to the fever clinic entrance

It is a separate door from the general entrance, so you do not share a waiting room with other patients.

  2. Scan the QR code to check in

The check-in page is available in English. If the QR code at the entrance opens it in Japanese, tap “English” at the top. Please have your passport with you.

  3. Weekdays: wait in your car

When your turn is near, we call you or send an SMS. Come to the fever clinic entrance, press the intercom button, then say your name. The messages are in Japanese.

  4. Sundays, holidays: documents first

After checking in, come to the general outpatient entrance so we can check your documents, then wait in your car. We phone you when it is your turn.
